 RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Tuesday called on the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, during which both sides exchanged views on regional developments and initiatives aimed at promoting peace, stability and dialogue.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), President Pezeshkian appreciated Pakistan’s constructive and responsible role in promoting dialogue, de-escalation and regional stability.

He also acknowledged Islamabad’s consistent efforts to encourage peaceful resolution of disputes and foster understanding among regional stakeholders amid heightened geopolitical challenges.

Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to regional peace and stability, the ISPR statement said.

The two sides reaffirmed their resolve to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran relations and maintain close consultations on matters of mutual interest, with the shared objective of advancing peace, prosperity and stability across the region.

 

PRESIDENT ZARDARI REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR IRAN

Earlier on Tuesday, President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s principled support for Iran’s peace, stability, national unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, stating that Pakistan has consistently opposed unilateral approaches and supported dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path to sustainable regional and global solutions.

He also underscored Pakistan’s commitment to preserving the unity of the Muslim Ummah while maintaining strong fraternal relations with Gulf countries.

President Zardari met Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian at Aiwan-e-Sadr, according to a statement issued by the President Secretariat Media Wing.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, regional peace and security, connectivity, economic cooperation, and other areas of mutual interest.

The Iranian president was accompanied by Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Chief of the President’s Office Mohsen Haji Mirzaei, Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, Saeed Abbas Mousavi, Chief of Political Affairs of the President’s Office, and Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghaddam.

From the Pakistani side, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Chief Whip Senate Senator Saleem Mandviwala and Dr. Asim Hussain attended the meeting.

President Zardari welcomed President Pezeshkian on his first state visit to Pakistan after the recent conflict, saying the visit reflected the longstanding brotherly ties between the two countries and their shared resolve to remain united in times of peace and challenge.

He congratulated President Pezeshkian on the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and expressed hope that ongoing technical-level negotiations would lead to lasting peace in the region.

President Zardari also expressed condolences over the martyrdom of Ali Hosseini Khamenei and said Pakistan would participate in his funeral.

President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its constructive role in promoting peace and dialogue and appreciated Islamabad’s support during recent challenging circumstances.

He said Iran attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan and looks forward to expanding cooperation in political, economic, security and regional domains.

President Zardari requested President Pezeshkian to convey his warm regards to Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran.

 

IRANIAN PRESIDENT ARRIVES ON STATE VISIT

Earlier, Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Pakistan on a state visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received him at Nur Khan Airbase, where he was accorded a 21-gun salute and a fighter jet flypast in his honour.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, and other senior officials were present on the occasion.

Dr. Pezeshkian was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials. During the visit, he is expected to meet President Zardari and hold talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

This is President Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan in his capacity as Iranian president.

 

IRANIAN FM ARAGHCHI ARRIVES IN ISLAMABAD

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad as part of the presidential delegation, according to a Foreign Office statement.

He was received by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar at Nur Khan Airbase. The FO said Pakistan and Iran share strong brotherly relations rooted in history, faith and culture, and extended a warm welcome to the visiting delegation.

According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Araghchi held meetings with President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shortly before President Pezeshkian’s arrival.

 

PROGRAMME AND ITINERARY OF OFFICIAL VISIT

The visit comes days after Iran and the United States signed the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, a framework agreement aimed at ending months of conflict and paving the way for a comprehensive settlement, with Pakistan playing a key mediating role.

During the visit, President Pezeshkian is expected to hold detailed talks with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who had earlier chaired the quadrilateral Iran-US-Pakistan-Qatar talks in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.

According to the Foreign Office, the two sides will review the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and explore avenues to enhance cooperation in trade, energy, border security, people-to-people exchanges and regional connectivity.

The FO said the visit reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Iran to deepen historic ties and advance peace, stability and sustainable development in the region.

Officials said the visit will also provide an opportunity to review implementation of understandings under the Islamabad MoU and discuss broader regional and global developments.

The visit underscores the growing importance of Pakistan-Iran engagement amid shifting regional geopolitics and mutual interest in promoting peace, stability and economic cooperation.

President Pezeshkian is also expected to convey Tehran’s appreciation for Pakistan’s diplomatic role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States.

The one-day visit marks President Pezeshkian’s second trip to Pakistan since assuming office and reflects ongoing efforts by both countries to expand cooperation in trade, border management and economic integration.
