Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters in Tehran on Thursday, according to Iranian media.
He was received by Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters Commander Major General Ali Abdollahi upon arrival at the military facility.
The visit is part of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to support talks between Iran and the United States following a two-week ceasefire between the two sides.
The army chief arrived in Tehran on Wednesday along with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a delegation, where they were received by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
During the visit, meetings were held with Araghchi and Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, both of whom had earlier participated in talks with a United States delegation in Islamabad.
Pakistan facilitated those discussions in Islamabad on April 11 after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif played a role in securing a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States on April 8.
Ahead of the visit, Iran’s foreign ministry indicated that messages from the United States would be conveyed through diplomatic channels.
An Iranian official said the visit had contributed to narrowing differences on certain issues, raising the possibility of extending the ceasefire and continuing negotiations.
United States President Donald Trump has publicly acknowledged the army chief’s role in the mediation process and expressed support for continued engagement through Pakistan.
During last week’s talks in Islamabad, the army chief was present at key moments, including receiving delegations from both sides.
