FAISALABAD: Faisalabad police have reinstated 27 personnel who had been sent into compulsory retirement for remaining absent from duty during Eidul Azha, after making their return conditional on plantation in their assigned areas.
The officials included a sub-inspector, an assistant sub-inspector, head constables and constables. They had earlier been ordered into compulsory retirement by Madina Division SP Flight Lt (retd) Azhar Javed over what was described as unauthorised absence during the Eid holidays.
The personnel later appealed the punishment before Faisalabad City Police Officer Tanveer Hussain, requesting a review of the disciplinary action. After examining the cases, the CPO revised the penalties and ordered their reinstatement. Under the decision, each official has been directed to plant 10 trees in his respective area and provide photographic proof of the plantation.
While restoring the officials to service, Tanveer Hussain stressed that discipline within the police force would not be relaxed. At the same time, he said the accountability process should also include corrective steps and room for reform.
Disciplinary record
According to police records, more than 60 Faisalabad police employees have faced disciplinary proceedings over the past 18 months. In 2025 alone, action was taken against 44 officials, including two station house officers, over allegations that ranged from links with drug traffickers to disobeying court orders.
During the first six months of 2026, cases were registered against eight more officials on accusations including alleged ties with criminals and involvement in gambling activities. A number of personnel removed from service have challenged those decisions before the Service Tribunal, where their appeals are still pending.
The latest move combines disciplinary enforcement with what police leadership presented as an opportunity for reform, linking reinstatement with a requirement aimed at contributing to plantation activity in the city.
