Punjab’s law and order committee reviewed live monitoring of Muharram processions and majalis during a visit to the home department’s central control room in Lahore. Officials said over 37,000 majalis and 9,000 processions are under surveillance across the province.

Punjab reviews live monitoring of Muharram gatherings across province

LAHORE: Punjab Cabinet Committee on Law and Order chairman Khwaja Salman Rafique on Sunday reviewed the province-wide surveillance of Muharram processions and majalis during a visit to the home department’s central control room.

During the visit, Home Secretary Ahmad Javed Qazi briefed Rafique on the overall security situation in Punjab. The committee chairman also contacted officials working at control rooms in different districts and sought updates on security arrangements.

Officials informed the committee chairman that more than 37,000 majalis and 9,000 processions are being monitored across the province. Home department officials were present during the briefing sessions at the control room.

Rafique also visited the Digital Media Cell, where he was given a briefing on cyber patrolling and the quick response system in place as part of the broader monitoring effort.
