BÜRGENSTOCK, SWITZERLAND: Swiss Vice President and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis on Sunday called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the ongoing technical-level talks between the United States and Iran in Bürgenstock, as diplomatic efforts gathered momentum to advance the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting regional peace and stability.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the Swiss foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s mediation role in facilitating the negotiations that culminated in the signing of the Islamabad MoU between Iran and the United States.

He also expressed Switzerland’s willingness to contribute to and support the follow-up process aimed at ensuring the successful implementation of the agreement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked the Swiss leadership for its support and reaffirmed that the successful implementation of the Islamabad MoU would contribute significantly to regional peace, global stability and economic prosperity.

The prime minister also appreciated Switzerland’s sustained investment in Pakistan and expressed the hope that Swiss companies would further expand their footprint in the country.
He offered Pakistan’s assistance through its highly skilled information technology and cyber security professionals to help meet Switzerland’s growing requirements in these sectors.
The two sides also discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation in a range of mutually beneficial areas, including pharmaceuticals, tourism, climate change and disaster risk reduction, the PMO said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz extended an invitation to Vice President Cassis to visit Pakistan at mutually convenient dates.
Later, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took to X to share details of his meeting with the Swiss foreign minister, thanking Switzerland for its “support and constructive engagement” following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

“We agreed that its successful implementation will contribute to regional peace, stability and global economic prosperity,” he wrote.
“We affirmed our commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest. I also invited Vice President Cassis to visit Pakistan to further strengthen the longstanding friendship between our two countries,” the prime minister added.
PM PRAISES IRANIAN LEADERSHIP, TRUMP FOR EFFORTS TO DEFUSE TENSIONS
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the Iranian leadership for what he described as its constructive approach to addressing regional tensions, saying Tehran had demonstrated a sincere commitment to de-escalation and peace.
Speaking at the venue of the high-level talks, Prime Minister Shehbaz praised the Iranian leadership, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, President Raza Pezeshkian and Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, for approaching the process with seriousness and a desire to reduce tensions.

“They have been very straight and they have handled this entire process with a sense of ability to de-escalate the situation,” the prime minister said.
He added that Iran’s leadership “genuinely mean promoting peace in the region.”
The prime minister also praised US President Donald Trump, saying he had “no second thought about the fact that he is a man of peace” and had demonstrated this during the conflict between Pakistan and India when the two countries were “very close to nuclear fledging point.”
He said President Trump’s “dynamic and courageous leadership intervened very effectively and saved millions of people.”
Referring to Pakistan’s renewed engagement with the United States, Prime Minister Shehbaz described it as a “very encouraging sign.”
“I am very grateful to President Trump for supporting Pakistan in promoting economic cooperation between the two countries, counter terrorism,” he said, expressing hope that the evolving relationship would usher in a new era of close coordination and cooperation.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a bilateral meeting with US Vice President JD Vance at the Bürgenstock Resort in Switzerland, according to Press TV.
In a post on X, the broadcaster said US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner were also present during the meeting.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Munir also met the Iranian delegation led by Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf at the Bürgenstock Resort.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar were also present.

Responding to a question by Pakistan TV’s Adil Shahzeb regarding Pakistan’s mediation efforts, US Vice President JD Vance remarked, “Very good, we love Pakistan,” according to Pakistan TV.

Prime Minister Shehbaz arrived in Zurich on Sunday along with a high-level delegation to participate in talks on the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, the PMO said.
According to the PMO, the prime minister and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir are participating in the “High-Level Talks on the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.”
As a follow-up to the signing of Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, technical-level talks will be held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, on 21 June 2026.

The Foreign Office earlier said Prime Minister Shehbaz would also hold bilateral meetings with delegations from Iran, the United States, Qatar and Switzerland during his visit to Bürgenstock to reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue and durable peace in the region.
The talks, initially scheduled for Friday, were later rescheduled, with Switzerland’s foreign ministry confirming they had not taken place as originally planned.
The prime minister, accompanied by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, travelled to Switzerland on Saturday night to attend the talks, which the Foreign Office described as “the first formal engagement after the signing of the Islamabad MoU on June 17, 2026.”
The discussions in Switzerland mark the first formal follow-up engagement since the signing of the agreement earlier this week, with senior delegations from Iran, Qatar and the United States participating in the negotiations.
