Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says Pakistan helped bring Iran and the US to direct talks in Islamabad and described the move as a sign of global trust in Pakistan. He also called for Muslim unity and reaffirmed support for Palestine and Kashmir.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday that Pakistan had emerged as an important force for peace and stability in the region, and credited the country’s diplomatic efforts with helping facilitate talks between Iran and the United States.
Speaking at the 6th International Paigham-e-Islam Conference in Islamabad, the prime minister said the participation at the event reflected the unity of the Muslim Ummah. He also praised religious scholars for their role in promoting harmony.
According to the prime minister, Pakistan succeeded in persuading the leadership of Iran and the United States to enter dialogue for the first time since 1979. He said the talks were held in Islamabad on April 11 and 12.
“This reflects the trust the international community places in Pakistan,” he said.
He thanked both countries for accepting Pakistan’s invitation and agreeing to a ceasefire, and said the country had rendered a significant service aimed at supporting peace and stability in the region.
The prime minister expressed hope that Pakistan’s continued efforts would contribute to lasting peace in the region. He also paid tribute to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for what he described as a key role in preserving regional peace.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also acknowledged the support of China, Turkiye and other friendly countries. He commended Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their efforts in helping bring both sides to the negotiating table.
Call for unity and support for Muslim causes
The premier prayed for the success of Pakistan’s efforts to secure a permanent ceasefire and stressed the importance of strong relations with Saudi Arabia. He said bilateral ties had reached new levels, including in defence cooperation.
He reiterated that the protection of Haramain Sharifain remained a matter of faith for Pakistan.
Referring to recent challenges, the prime minister said the nation had remained united irrespective of sectarian differences, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace.
He urged Ulema to play an active role in promoting unity and cohesion through their sermons, and to encourage people to stand together for national stability.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position on Palestine and Kashmir, the prime minister said the country would continue to support their people until they achieve independence. He also condemned elements involved in terrorism and attempts to create divisions within the Muslim Ummah.
At the event, the prime minister also distributed shields among prominent personalities in recognition of their services for the Muslim Ummah.
