ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said the benefits of the government’s economic policies would be passed on to the public once peace in the region was fully restored and normal conditions returned.
He made the remarks during a meeting with women members of parliament from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), where he linked durable regional stability with economic growth and prosperity. The prime minister said a peaceful environment was necessary to create better conditions for public relief and development.
Shehbaz Sharif thanked the women lawmakers for their active role in the ongoing budget session and said the government had tried to provide the maximum possible relief to citizens in the Budget 2026-27. He said a number of measures had been proposed to strengthen women and expand their role in national development.
The prime minister said enabling Pakistani women to participate fully in the country’s development remained one of the government’s top priorities. He also said regional tensions had eased and that efforts aimed at peace had succeeded.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed appreciation for friendly countries that, he said, had fully supported efforts to establish peace. He added that since the start of the tensions, the Government of Pakistan had worked actively and sincerely to restore peace, specifically mentioning Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, and the wider government team.
He said lasting peace in the region and the wider world was essential for Pakistan and other countries to meet their economic development objectives. Referring to the government’s recent economic management, the prime minister said every possible effort had been made over recent months to protect the public from the impact of global inflation.
Speaking about supply conditions, the prime minister said Pakistan had avoided the kind of disruptions seen elsewhere in the region. "By the grace of Allah, unlike some other countries in the region, Pakistan did not face any crisis, nor were there long queues for fuel," he said.
