Power firms roll out simplified electricity bills across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Electricity distribution companies across Pakistan have begun issuing a redesigned bill format as part of the Ministry of Energy (Power Division)’s consumer-focused reform programme, according to an official statement.

The ministry said the revised format has been prepared to make bills easier to read and understand, with key information arranged more clearly for consumers. It said the redesign is intended to help users more quickly identify their electricity usage, billing details and payment requirements.

In its statement, the Power Division said the step followed years of feedback from consumers and other stakeholders about the earlier bill design. According to the ministry, many users had complained that the previous format was difficult to follow because of a crowded layout, too much information and a complicated presentation. It added that technical details, repeated content and non-essential material often made it harder for consumers to find the most important billing information.

The ministry said it decided to overhaul the format in response to those concerns and as part of its stated commitment to transparency and better service delivery. It added that the new design is simpler and less cluttered, with payable amounts, due dates and electricity consumption displayed more prominently.

According to the statement, the information has also been reorganised so that consumers can understand the bill more easily at a glance. The ministry said the reduced visual complexity is meant to make the document more accessible to people from different backgrounds.

The revised bills also include QR codes, which the ministry said will allow consumers to access additional information and digital services more conveniently.

The statement said Lahore, Gujranwala and Multan electricity companies have already started printing bills in the new format, while the Islamabad Electric Supply Company is scheduled to begin printing them from Monday. It added that the remaining distribution companies are completing procurement procedures and will start printing the redesigned bills once that process is finished.

In the statement, the Power Division said consumer and stakeholder feedback had played an important role in shaping the change and added that the ministry would continue reforms aimed at improving transparency, efficiency and consumer satisfaction in the power sector.
