The electricity billing system is increasingly frustrating, with the real problem lying in the complexity of the bills. Each one comes packed with confusing slabs, fuel price adjustments, fixed charges, and a long list of unclear taxes. The government should educate the public about the various electricity tariffs, as they are numerous and highly complex. The lack of transparency makes it impossible to forecast electricity expenses. One month’s bill might look completely different from the next even with similar usage.
What makes matters worse is that the base tariff remains at an all-time high. So even if there is a reduction on paper, it’s hardly felt when the core cost is still this elevated. In today’s tough economic conditions, where businesses are already battling rising input costs and inflation, this type of billing structure only makes survival harder.
We need more than mere announcements and promotional government caller ring back tones. We need clear, understandable bills and a permanent reduction in the base tariff that offers actual, visible relief. Above all, we need the government not to go in circles and communicate power tariffs in simple terms while providing actual relief to the nation.
