KARACHI: Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho on Wednesday inaugurated a new gynaecology operation theatre block at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, saying the addition would strengthen surgical care for women, especially in urgent cases.
Speaking to the media after the inauguration at JPMC, the minister said the newly activated facility had been equipped with modern medical machinery to improve the quality and efficiency of treatment in the gynaecology ward. She said the new block would help ensure more timely access to surgery for patients.
Dr Pechuho also said intensive care unit services at the hospital would be made functional soon. In addition, she announced plans for a dedicated nursery and a neonatal intensive care unit for newborns as part of the ongoing expansion of services at the hospital.
According to the minister, healthcare facilities at JPMC are being expanded in phases to cope with the rising patient burden. She said the number of beds had already been increased to improve service delivery, while recruitment of medical and paramedical staff was also under way. Some appointments have already been made, she said, adding that hiring had previously been slowed by legal and procedural issues but efforts were now being made to speed up the process.
