ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to provide wheat to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa under directions issued by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, with the supply to be arranged through the Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation Limited (Passco).
The decision was announced by the Ministry of National Food Security, which said the prime minister had instructed the ministry to ensure wheat reaches the province through Passco.
Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain said the move was intended to shield people in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa from inflationary pressure. He added that directions had already been issued for an immediate and effective wheat supply mechanism through Passco.
The development comes as the ministry moves to implement the premier’s directive for wheat provision to the province through the state-run storage and supply body.
