Punjab approves purchase of wheat from PASSCO

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to procure one million tonnes of wheat from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) to help keep prices stable across the province.

The decision was taken on Tuesday during a video-link meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to review the wheat and flour situation. According to a statement, the chief minister approved the purchase as part of efforts to maintain price stability.

Under the plan, wheat will be obtained from PASSCO, while flour mills will be supplied wheat at Rs3,300 per maund so that affordable flour and bread remain available to the public.

The participants also examined concerns over the alleged restriction on the movement of wheat from Punjab to other provinces, particularly Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh. A detailed report on the matter was presented during the meeting, the statement said.
