KARACHI: The principal of a private school and a teacher have been booked on manslaughter charges after a 15-year-old student died following a fall from the roof of the school in Orangi Town, police said on Wednesday.

According to a police spokesperson, the girl, identified as Kanza, fell from the fourth floor of the school building located in Gabol Colony a couple of days ago. She sustained critical injuries in the incident and was first taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Police said she was later shifted to a private hospital for further treatment. However, she died during treatment.

The spokesperson said the deceased student had been enrolled at the school since Class 6.

The Orangi Town police registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s father, Raja Mehdi Hasan. The case names the school’s principal, who is also the owner of the institution, and a chemistry teacher.

Police said both suspects have fled.

Case registered on father’s complaint

Police said the case was lodged after the girl’s father approached the authorities following his daughter’s death. The principal and the teacher have been booked under manslaughter charges in connection with the incident.

The incident took place at a private school in Karachi’s Orangi Town area, specifically in Gabol Colony, according to the police spokesperson.

Officials said the student suffered severe injuries after falling from the school’s roof and remained under treatment before succumbing to her wounds.

No further details about the circumstances of the fall were provided in the police account cited on Wednesday.

The development came after the teenage student’s death triggered police action against the school administration and a member of the teaching staff named in the complaint.

Police said efforts would be required to trace the two suspects, who were reported to have fled after the case was registered.
