Karachi teacher assaulted by student’s family, police official named in FIR

KARACHI: A female teacher was attacked by the family of a student, including a serving police officer, at a private school in the Jamshed Quarters area, police confirmed on Wednesday. The assault reportedly occurred inside the principal’s office and was captured on CCTV, which shows the teacher being physically attacked by multiple individuals.

The incident stemmed from a disciplinary measure on May 16, when the teacher asked a student to stand as punishment for arriving late. Two days later, the student’s parents and maternal uncle arrived at the school to confront her.

According to the FIR lodged at Jamshed Quarters Police Station, the student’s uncle identified himself as the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kalakot and, along with the student and her parents, allegedly assaulted the teacher. Other female staff members who intervened were also manhandled during the altercation.

Police have confirmed that one of the assailants is an active-duty officer and that internal disciplinary action has been initiated. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East, Dr Farrukh Raza, has taken notice and launched an investigation into the incident.

The case has raised concerns about rising violence against educators. Earlier this year, Khan Mayel, a 38-year-old teacher from North Waziristan, was shot dead outside a school in North Karachi. According to police, the assailants fled after firing at Mayel, who died on the spot from a gunshot wound to the head. Investigators suspect the killing was motivated by personal enmity.
