KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has said the agreements signed between Pakistan and China on Monday would serve as important milestones for the development of multiple sectors.
In a statement issued after the signing of three memorandums of understanding between Pakistan and China, Memon said the agreements would open up fresh avenues for investment, help improve access to basic facilities for the public, encourage the use of modern technology and deepen industrial cooperation.
He said seawater desalination projects had become essential in view of the increasing requirements of a large city such as Karachi. According to Memon, the use of modern technology could make it possible to provide additional water to residents, which would help tackle the city’s water shortage in the future.
Memon said the Sindh government was taking serious measures to find a lasting solution to urban problems and that engagement with world-class companies formed part of that approach. He said the project would contribute to better infrastructure and urban facilities in Karachi while also generating investment and employment opportunities.

The minister linked the agreements to the broader needs of Karachi, saying the city required practical and long-term solutions to its civic challenges. He said desalination initiatives could play an important role in strengthening water availability for citizens through modern methods.
He further said the Sindh government’s cooperation with a Chinese company in the area of agricultural technology was highly encouraging for the provincial economy. According to Memon, such collaboration could support economic activity in Sindh alongside the other areas covered by the agreements.
The statement came after three MoUs were signed between Pakistan and China on Monday. Memon described the understandings as a step that would not only support development work but also help create conditions for technological advancement and stronger industrial linkages.
He said the agreements reflected efforts aimed at addressing public needs through investment and international cooperation. In his statement, Memon emphasised that projects involving modern technology and collaboration with established international firms were part of the Sindh government’s wider vision for improving services and infrastructure.
Memon also said cooperation between the Sindh Local Government Department and a Chinese company in agricultural technology was highly encouraging for Sindh’s economy.
