WATCH: Vaibhav Suryavanshi from India A pushes Sri Lanka A player after Super Over defeat

Indian batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi was involved in a heated post-match confrontation after India A suffered a Super Over defeat to Sri Lanka A in Dambulla on Monday, with on-field footage showing a brief physical exchange between players.

The incident unfolded moments after the final ball of the Super Over, when emotions appeared to spill over following a tightly contested finish. Broadcast visuals showed Suryavanshi exchanging words with Sri Lanka A’s Kugathas Mathulan before moving toward another player, Vishen Halambage, whom he appeared to push.

Halambage responded with a push of his own as the situation briefly escalated on the field.

The confrontation was quickly defused after senior players, including Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige and wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella, stepped in to separate the players. Members of the India A side also intervened to escort Suryavanshi away from the exchange.

Despite the incident, both teams proceeded with the customary post-match handshakes, though Suryavanshi was seen visibly animated as he left the field.

The tense finish came after a dramatic match in which both sides ended their 50 overs tied at 265 runs, forcing a Super Over to decide the winner.

Sri Lanka A posted 16 runs in the tie-breaker, setting a challenging target for India A. However, Suryavanshi and Suryansh Shedge managed only nine runs in reply, handing the hosts a narrow victory.

Mathulan ultimately sealed the match with a final-ball yorker that Suryavanshi was unable to connect with.

The match had already carried added tension earlier, with India A captain Tilak Varma disputing umpiring decisions related to fading light toward the end of the innings, which contributed to the Super Over being played.

The incident involving Suryavanshi is likely to attract attention given his rapid rise in international cricket discussions.

He recently finished IPL 2026 as the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 776 runs for Rajasthan Royals, also winning the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player, and Emerging Player awards.

With talk already surrounding a potential senior India debut, the episode adds scrutiny ahead of India’s upcoming T20Is against Ireland and England later this month.
