Suspect injured in raid 'confesses' to abusing 35 children

Lahore: A man wanted in multiple child sexual abuse cases was seriously injured during a raid carried out by the Crime Control Department (CCD) in Mangamandi, according to police officials.

As per details, the CCD team had conducted the operation to arrest the suspect, identified as Aish Bahadur. Police said he tried to escape after seeing officers, but was unsuccessful.

Officials said the suspect was carrying a pistol tucked into his waistband at the time of the raid. According to the police account, he attempted to draw the weapon as officers moved in to arrest him.

A CCD spokesperson said, "During the attempt, the weapon went off in his waistband, leaving him seriously injured."

The injured suspect was later shifted to a hospital, where he remained under police custody for treatment.

Police claim confession during initial interrogation

Police said that during initial interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted involvement in at least 35 incidents of child sexual abuse. The claim was made by police following the raid and the suspect's arrest.

Authorities said the investigation was continuing to verify the suspect's statement and to identify the victims linked to the cases.

No further details were provided in the official account regarding the timeline of the alleged offences or the ages of the victims. The police statement focused on the circumstances of the raid, the suspect's injury, and the ongoing investigation into the allegations.

The case has drawn attention because of the number of incidents the suspect is alleged to have confessed to during questioning. However, police said the process of verification was still under way.

Officials maintained that the injury occurred when the pistol discharged accidentally while the suspect was trying to pull it from his waistband during the arrest attempt in Mangamandi.

The CCD has not publicly shared additional information beyond saying that the suspect was being treated in hospital under custody and that efforts were under way to establish the identities of the alleged victims and confirm the contents of his statement.
