Heavy rains triggered landslides in Murree’s Jhika Gali, destroying homes in Kausar Colony and damaging a mosque, cemetery and road. Affected families have been moved to temporary accommodation and are seeking financial aid and permanent housing.
MURREE: Heavy rains have continued to trigger landslides in Malika Kohsar, causing extensive damage in residential areas of Murree, according to a report.
The latest damage was reported in Kausar Colony in Jhika Gali, where scores of families were affected after their houses were completely destroyed by landsliding. The impact was not limited to homes, as the community’s mosque and cemetery were also affected.
The Jhika Gali Dhak Road has also sustained damage due to the landslides, adding to the difficulties faced by residents in the area.
The district administration has shifted the affected families to temporary accommodation in a private hotel in Jhika Gali. Even with that arrangement, the displaced residents remain in an uncertain situation after losing their homes.
The affected families have called on the government to provide financial assistance and make arrangements for their permanent housing.
Residents seek relief and permanent resettlement
Families hit by the landslides said they were now waiting for official support after the destruction of their houses. Their demands include immediate monetary help as well as a long-term plan for resettlement.
The continuing landsliding in Murree has left residents facing serious disruption, with damage extending to both private property and community infrastructure.
Maryam Nawaz visits nearby area
Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz visited the nearby Mall Road to inspect ongoing remodeling work from inside her vehicle.
Residents affected by the landslides noted that Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz were staying at their residence at Murree Kashmir Point, which they said was only a short distance away. They expressed hope that they would be able to meet them.
The latest incident adds to concerns over the impact of heavy rainfall and landsliding in Murree, where residential localities and public access routes have come under strain.
For the families displaced from Kausar Colony, the immediate concern remains shelter, relief and a permanent solution after their homes were destroyed. The damage to the mosque, cemetery and road has also highlighted the wider effect of the landslides on daily life in the area.
Residents have urged the government to respond to their situation with financial support and housing arrangements as they continue to live in temporary accommodation in Jhika Gali.
