Heavy rains trigger landslides in Murree, residents moved to safer areas

RAWALPINDI: Heavy rainfall caused landslides in several parts of Murree, leading the district administration to relocate residents from affected areas to safer places.

Deputy Commissioner Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi said rescue teams were deployed in and around Jheeka Gali after the rain-triggered landslides. He said residents were shifted to secure locations as authorities responded to the situation on the ground.

According to the deputy commissioner, personnel from Rescue 1122, police and other departments remained engaged in relief and response work in the affected localities. He said emergency machinery had been positioned in the area, while medical teams were also stationed to deal with any urgent needs.

Shirazi said work was continuing to remove debris and reopen roads blocked by the landslides. He added that basic supplies had also been provided to families affected by the disruption.

The deputy commissioner said more rainfall was expected in the area and noted that a treatment plan prepared by the Highway Department and NesPak would be put into effect once weather conditions improved.

He also reviewed the overall situation and directed the relevant authorities to use all available resources in the ongoing response effort.

Residents and visitors have been advised by the administration to remain careful and follow official instructions in view of the weather conditions and the risk posed by further rain.

The developments came after heavy rains triggered landslides in different parts of Murree, affecting access routes and prompting an emergency response by local authorities. Officials said teams from multiple departments were active in the field as efforts continued to manage the impact of the rainfall, assist residents and restore normal movement in the affected areas.

Authorities said the immediate focus remained on public safety, clearance of debris and maintaining emergency readiness as weather conditions continued to pose challenges in the hill station.
