Murree administration intensifies relief work after heavy rain damage

MURREE: The district administration has stepped up emergency response measures in Murree and nearby areas after recent torrential rains caused damage across multiple locations.

According to the district administration, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Murree Umar Awais Kiani carried out a detailed visit to Chatta Mor, Bansra Gali, Barian and other affected areas to review the situation on the ground and assess the scale of losses.

During the visit, he inspected highways, residential localities and drainage infrastructure. The administration said the inspection identified rain-related road damage, possible landslide threats, obstructions in water drainage and other pressing issues.

Kiani also met residents in the affected areas, heard their concerns and received details about the losses they had suffered. Residents told officials about the difficulties they were facing and stressed the need for immediate relief and rehabilitation steps.

Directions issued for damage assessment

The additional deputy commissioner directed the relevant departments to complete a comprehensive and transparent assessment of the damage without delay and submit their reports promptly so relief efforts could be made more effective.

He said restoration of roads, removal of debris, improvement of drainage systems and provision of essential services should be treated as priority tasks to reduce hardship for the public as quickly as possible.

Kiani further said the district administration was using all available resources to speed up relief and rehabilitation work in the affected localities. He added that negligence or delay would not be tolerated.

He reaffirmed that the protection of life and property remains the foremost priority, and that all possible measures are being undertaken to restore normalcy as swiftly as possible.

Officials from the relevant departments accompanied him during the visit, and on-the-spot instructions were issued for carrying out different tasks in the affected areas.

Monitoring to be tightened

The administration has also decided to strengthen monitoring arrangements further to ensure both the speed and quality of the ongoing work.

Residents welcomed the district administration’s visit and the measures announced during the inspection. They expressed hope that the government would provide immediate relief and also ensure long-term restoration of damaged infrastructure.

They also assured the administration of their full cooperation in overcoming the challenges at the earliest.

The latest measures come as authorities continue emergency operations in response to rain-related damage in Murree and adjoining areas, with road conditions, drainage blockages and landslide risks among the key concerns identified during the field visit.
