Trump signals Pakistan as possible venue for Iran talks

US President Donald Trump has suggested he may personally travel to Pakistan for a fresh round of diplomatic talks involving Iran in the coming days.

Speaking to the New York Post, Trump said developments could take place within the next two days and indicated that Pakistan is increasingly being considered as the preferred location. He also suggested there was little reason to choose another country less directly connected to the situation, while praising the field marshal for what he described as an excellent job.

His remarks indicate that the US administration may be leaning toward Pakistan as the setting for upcoming Iran-related discussions instead of relying on more traditional third-country venues. The comments also suggest that Washington is still weighing both political and logistical factors as it considers how to revive or move forward diplomatic engagement with Tehran.

Pakistan has previously been viewed as a possible facilitator in regional diplomacy because of its ties across the Middle East, as well as its longstanding relationships with Western and regional powers. Although Islamabad has not confirmed any formal involvement in the talks, it has at times been seen as a useful intermediary in complex US-Iran communication efforts.

More recently, Pakistan has gained attention for its role in mediation after helping secure a two-week ceasefire linked to the Gulf war and the Strait of Hormuz crisis. That role has strengthened the view among observers that Islamabad could serve as an important bridge between Washington and Tehran.
