Islamabad court issues arrest warrants for KP CM Afridi

ISLAMABAD: A court in Islamabad on Monday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Sohail Afridi in the case of allegedly making misleading comments about the state institutions and levelling baseless allegations against them.

The court issued the warrants when the chief minister failed to show up for the hearing. Senior Civil Judge Syed Abbas Shah ordered the police to arrest Afridi and produce him in the court.

Later, the judge adjourned the case’s hearing until March 26. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had registered a case against the KP CM under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

Two weeks ago, a district and sessions court in Islamabad had issued a non-bailable arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi in a case related to alleged misleading statements against the state institutions. The court ordered that he be arrested and produced before it on March 9. The case pertains to allegations that Sohail Afridi made misleading claims against state institutions and damaged their reputation.
