Salman Agha Admits Pakistan 'Underperformed' After T20 World Cup Exit

Pakistan's campaign in the T20 World Cup came to an end on Saturday, with captain Salman Agha expressing disappointment over the team's performance. Speaking to reporters after Pakistan's final Super Eights match in Kandy, Agha acknowledged that the team had "underperformed" throughout the tournament.

Despite securing a five-run victory against Sri Lanka, Pakistan were eliminated from the tournament on net run rate. "We have underperformed in the whole tournament," Agha said. "We are out of the semis due to our failure in decision-making in pressure situations."

During the match, opener Sahibzada Farhan made history by becoming the only player to score two hundreds in the same T20 World Cup. Pakistan posted a total of 212-8, with Farhan's contribution standing out. However, Agha noted that the rest of the batting lineup did not meet expectations. "Farhan was outstanding in the tournament but none of the other batters could come up to expectations," he stated. Agha himself managed only 60 runs in seven matches during the tournament.

Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka delivered a strong performance, scoring an unbeaten 76 off 31 balls, including eight sixes. Sri Lanka finished their innings at 207-6, falling just short of the target set by Pakistan. Despite the win, Pakistan's hopes of reaching the semi-finals were dashed as New Zealand advanced on net run rate.

When asked about his future as captain, Agha refrained from making any immediate decisions, saying he would not act "emotionally" following the team's exit from the tournament.
