Hyderabad sizzles at 43°C as residents suffer extended power outages

Hyderabad endured intense heat on Thursday as temperatures soared to 43°C, compounding citizens’ misery amid prolonged electricity load shedding across the city.

The Meteorological Department reported strong hot winds and increasing heat intensity, forcing most residents to remain indoors. Markets and roads wore a deserted look as those venturing out adopted heat precautions, including hydration and protective coverings.

The temperature reached 43°C in central Hyderabad, while readings on Airport Road hit 42°C. Morning humidity was recorded at 88%, dropping to 37% by evening, with hot winds blowing from the southwest at 29 km/h.

Residents faced additional hardship due to long and unannounced power cuts. HESCO reportedly extended electricity load shedding to 10–12 hours in urban areas and up to 16 hours in rural regions. Frequent outages blamed on feeder faults further disrupted daily life, leaving many without relief during peak heat hours.
