Interior Sindh temperatures top 50C as Karachi endures hot, humid weather

KARACHI: Large parts of Sindh remained under severe heat on Thursday, with temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius or more in six cities, while Karachi also recorded a high of 40C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Met data showed Shaheed Benazirabad and Dadu were the hottest locations at 51C. Mohenjo-Daro followed at 50.5C, while Larkana, Jacobabad and Sakrand each recorded 50C. Other major readings included Rohri at 48.5C, Sukkur, Hyderabad and Padidan at 48C, and Khairpur at 47C.

In Karachi, the temperature reached 40C. The Met department said relative humidity in the city was 79 per cent in the morning and 54 per cent in the evening, adding to the discomfort despite the lower temperature compared with interior districts.

According to Met officials, the high-pressure system affecting the region is expected to gradually weaken, which should bring down temperatures in Karachi. The department said hot and humid conditions are likely to continue in the city on Friday, with the maximum temperature expected to remain between 36C and 38C. It also forecast chances of dust storms and light rain at isolated places in the plain areas of Sindh from Thursday through June 13.
