LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department has revised operating hours for all government schools across the province in view of ongoing cold weather and persistent fog, issuing a notification that will take effect from January 19 and remain in force until April 15, 2026.
According to the notification, single-shift government schools will operate from 10:00am to 2:15pm from Monday to Thursday, while Friday timings have been shortened, with classes ending at 12:30pm.
For double-shift schools, the morning shift will continue until 2:00pm, followed by the afternoon shift from 2:15pm to 4:45pm.
The department has also directed that teachers will attend schools on alternate Saturdays, which will be utilised for curriculum planning, training programmes and Continuous Professional Development activities aimed at improving teaching standards.
Education officials said the revised schedule has been introduced to ensure student safety and continuity of learning during winter conditions that have disrupted normal routines in recent weeks.
The School Education Department urged school administrations, teachers, parents and students to strictly follow the revised timetable. Earlier, the department had also announced a one-week extension in winter vacations due to adverse weather conditions across several parts of the province.
