LAHORE: Germany’s Ambassador to Pakistan Anna Lepel called on Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Friday to discuss ways to expand bilateral trade and investment between the two countries.
Punjab’s Minister for Industry Chaudhry Shafay Hussain and Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain also attended the meeting. Both sides underlined the importance of taking concrete steps to boost economic cooperation and identify new opportunities for collaboration.
The discussions focused on joint ventures between Pakistani and German investors, reflecting growing interest in industrial and technological partnerships.
Briefing the envoy, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain outlined Punjab’s potential for investment, citing the province’s special economic zones, industrial estates, and infrastructure facilities designed to attract local and foreign investors. He highlighted projects such as the Quaid-e-Azam Business Park in Sheikhupura and the proposed Garment City aimed at the textile sector.
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said Germany’s advanced technology and expertise could significantly support Pakistan’s skill development and value addition in industries such as the salt sector. He added that enhanced cooperation with Germany would help strengthen industrial innovation and technical capacity in Pakistan.
Federal Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain noted that skilled Pakistani professionals are highly regarded abroad and that German investment could open new employment opportunities, particularly in Punjab.
Ambassador Lepel appreciated Pakistan’s efforts toward industrial development and expressed Germany’s commitment to broadening cooperation in trade, skill training, and technology-driven ventures.
