Shakargarh police accused of raping detained girl; inquiry underway

SHAKARGARH: An alarming incident was reported from the Shakargarh Chak Amru police station, where the station house officer (SHO) and a constable are alleged to have raped a detained girl.

According to reports from Friday, the girl was later released after her family paid Rs200,000.

The victim recounted that on July 29, she and her fiancé were visiting Sherpur village when they were detained by police officers from the Chak Amru station. She alleged that while in custody, SHO Hanif Padhyar and Constable Mumtaz subjected her to torture and rape.

Fearing retribution, the victim has since filed a complaint with the District Police Officer (DPO) and sought refuge in Darul Aman. She has also appealed to the Inspector General of Punjab for justice.

In response to these allegations, DPO Naveed Malik stated that an inquiry has been directed to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). However, the police have noted that the victim’s statement to the local magistrate did not include any allegations against the police, suggesting that her claims might be unfounded.
