Heatwave claims another life

MIRPURKHAS: A man died of heat stroke in Mirpurkhas on Wednesday as the city is currently facing severe heatwave like the rest of the country.

The deceased is identified as 40-year-old cattle trader, Mohammad Yusuf Leghari, resident of Gulshan Colony, collapsed in cattle market due to intense heat. He was subsequently transferred to Civil Hospital, where doctors confirmed his demise.

Extreme heat persists in Sanghar and its surrounding areas as well. To mitigate effects of the heatwave, various organisations, including political parties, social workers, and the district administration, have set up heat stroke camps across different parts of the city. These camps aim to provide cold water and beverages to the residents.

Assistant Commissioner Tando Allahyar Faheem Shakir and Chairman Municipal Committee Syed Samar Abbas Shah Rizvi have urged citizens to limit outdoor activities to essential tasks only and to avoid unnecessary ventures. They made these appeals while visiting camps organised by district administration.

Meanwhile in Hyderabad, a joint session on heat wave awareness successfully conducted by Additional Deputy Commissioner -I and Additional Deputy Commissioner -II here at the Spark School on Wednesday. Rescue 1122 team and District Health office representatives participated in the awareness session. The highly interactive session not only provided valuable information but also answered various queries raised by the students.

Moreover, Hyderabad DC Zainul Abideen Memon chairing a meeting directed the officers to provide water and ORS to vaccinators to prevent them from heatstroke. The meeting was held on Wednesday at Shehbaz Hall review the arrangements for anti-polio drive from June 3 to June 9.

Very hot and dry weather will persist across the Sukkur division with daytime maximum temperature range 47-48 Celsius, the local Met Office said on Wednesday.

The maximum temperature will be 47.5-48 Celsius in Sukkur, Khairpur, Jaccababd and Shikarpur districts. Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) had earlier announced heatwave alert for Sukkur division. The PDMA had advised concerned departments and district authorities to keep alert to tackle any contingency.
