SNGPL unearths huge theft in Lower Dir, disconnects 4.5km-long illegal pipeline

SWAT: The Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Company (SNGPL) Malakand region disconnected a 4.5-km-long line in a grand operation conducted on a tip-off in six villages of Lower Dir.

According to the company’s officials, more than 450 connections were illegally obtaining gas from this pipeline. They said the operation was carried out in the villages of Damamu, Awlia Banda, Bandgai, Tangay, Nakhtaro Koto and Shigai areas of Dir lower.

According to the regional head Malakand Division of Sui northern gas Engineer Mirwais Khan, the company’s teams from Swat, Batkhela and Dir participated in the operation.

He said that the operation was carried out early in the morning due to continuous resistance from the locals and during the operation, 4.5 km-long, 4 inch diameter pipe was disconnected and all illegal connections were cut off.

Eng Mirwais Khan further said that more than 450 illegal connections were made from this pipeline in these six villages and gas worth Rs110 million was being stolen.

“The details of the perpetrators are being collected and regular letters are being sent to the respective police stations for legal action against these persons.” he said.
