Achakzai withdraws from NA-265, backs Maulana Fazlur Rehman

QUETTA: Chairman Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) Mehmood Khan Achakzai has officially withdrawn his nomination papers from the National Assembly Constituency NA-265 on Friday. The move, made on the final day for candidate withdrawals, signals a strategic decision in favor of Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

January 12 marks the deadline for candidates to retract their nomination papers in anticipation of the general elections scheduled for February 8, as per the Election Commission’s revised schedule. The Election Commission of Pakistan is set to release the final list of candidates today, following the withdrawal process.

Candidates who have submitted their papers retain the option to withdraw from the election, influencing the composition of the final candidate list. Tomorrow, the Election Commission is slated to allocate election symbols to participating candidates.

Additionally, the Election Commission has made changes to the election schedule for specific seats, particularly those reserved for women and minorities in the National and Provincial Assemblies. A recent notification stipulates the scrutiny of nomination papers for these seats until January 13, while political parties and independent candidates nationwide have until February 6 to submit their nomination papers. General elections are scheduled to take place on February 8.
