US diplomat ‘impressed’ by UoG progress

GUJRAT: US Consul General in Lahore, William K. Makaneole visited Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat (UoG) on Wednesday and said that he was impressed by the progress made by the varsity.

He met the alumni of the academics benefiting from the US-funded University Partnership Project under student-faculty exchange program.

Mr Makaneole along with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shabbar Atiq inaugurated the newsroom at the recently-built TV studio set up at the Centre for Media and Communication Studies (CMCS).

After the inauguration, the US diplomat told the media that he was impressed by the progress made by the University of Gujrat during recent years. He said Pakistan was one of major recipients of US funds in the education sector, adding that he was happy to see the fruits of the ongoing partnership of both the countries.

Earlier, the diplomat was given a warm welcome upon arrival here at the campus. The delegation was received by Dean Faculty of Arts Prof Dr Zahid Yousuf, other senior academics and Vice Chancellor’s Office staff.

Later, the US delegation met the vice chancellor in his office where they were briefed about the various ongoing programs and the progress and achievements so far made by the varsity.

The US Consul General also visited the UoG School of Art, Design & Architecture (SADA) and showed a keen interest in the innovative designs and products of the students. They watched a theatrical performance by the Odium Art Society as part of the ongoing Hayat Rang 23.

Prof Dr Shabbar Atiq presented UoG souvenirs and shields to the US diplomat and other members of his accompanying delegation. Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Muhammad Mushahid Anwar and other senior academics were also present.
