NAB resumes probe into alleged corruption in Peshawar BRT project

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has revived its investigation into the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Peshawar and has issued notices to officials of the project management unit.

The investigation, which had been pending for several years, has been reinitiated by the Bureau. Notices have been sent to every official involved in the construction of the BRT, including the directors of each reach and Project Management Unit employees, instructing them to submit their written responses to NAB.

Officials from the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) confirmed that the officers in question have received the notices from NAB’s Peshawar office and have been directed to submit their written responses.

It is important to note that in 2020, the Supreme Court had ordered to halt investigations into the alleged corruption in the Peshawar BRT project after the outgoing PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa appealed against the Peshawar High Court’s verdict.

Nevertheless, NAB has reopened the case, indicating that the investigation into the Peshawar BRT project is gaining momentum once again, and significant developments may occur in the coming days.
