Another consignment of Sinopharm vaccine arrive

ISLAMABAD: A special Pakistan International Airlines flight on Sunday brought another consignment of the Covid-19 vaccine from Beijing.

The plane carrying 680,000 shots of Sinopharm vaccine landed in Islamabad early morning.

The drug was later shifted to the central warehouse of the Expanded Programme on Immunisation in Islamabad.

Pakistan has so far purchased two million doses of the drug from China. On Saturday, 1.32 million doses of Sinopharm had arrived in the capital. The previous day, a batch of 64,000 jabs of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine had arrived on board a flight of a foreign airline.

Pakistan has signed an agreement with Pfizer Inc. for the procurement of 13 million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine. 100,000 doses of the vaccine had arrived in Islamabad in July.

The shots will be administered to people with chronic diseases and fragile immunity and those travelling abroad.

The government aims to vaccinate 80 million people against the disease by year-end. The arrival of more doses will help the country ramp up the drive.
