NA calls for ‘aggressive national push’ against terror sponsors after Balochistan attacks

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution demanding an “immediate, aggressive, and coordinated” national response against the external sponsors and internal facilitators of terrorism, as lawmakers voiced grave concern over a surge in deadly attacks in Balochistan.

The resolution, tabled by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, came during a debate on the deteriorating security situation in the province following a series of coordinated terrorist attacks on Saturday.

Condemning the violence in the “strongest terms”, the House said innocent civilians were targeted using “heinous and inhumane tactics,” including the exploitation of women as weapons. It called for a united response across political, diplomatic, military, intelligence, legal and rhetorical fronts to dismantle terror networks, funding channels, smuggling routes and propaganda hubs.

The resolution noted that available evidence in several cases pointed to external sponsorship, raising “serious concerns” over India’s alleged role. It said terrorism was being supported from neighbouring countries through logistical facilitation, financing, training, movement and propaganda networks.

Expressing sorrow over the use of women in attacks, the House said such acts were completely against Islamic, Pakistani and Baloch values. It paid tribute to the security forces, law-enforcement agencies, the Balochistan government, and civil administration for what it termed timely and effective action and reaffirmed a zero-tolerance policy against attacks on civilians, women and children.

According to the military’s media wing, terrorists of Fitna-al-Hindustan carried out large-scale coordinated attacks across Balochistan. Security forces killed 92 militants during the initial response, with follow-up operations raising the death toll of terrorists to 177 within 48 hours.

Lawmakers warn of widening unrest

Members from across party lines — including the PTI, PPP and JUI-F — warned that terrorism was resurging not only in Balochistan but also in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, calling for a deeper examination of root causes.

PTI MNA Asad Qaiser said frequent attacks reflected unresolved political and governance issues. “If the state does not treat its people fairly and denies them basic rights, it has to face such situations,” he said, stressing democracy as the “fundamental solution”.

Qaiser also raised concerns over withheld provincial funds and alleged discrimination between provinces, while urging dialogue with Afghanistan to address cross-border security issues through diplomatic channels.

JUI-F lawmakers Aliya Kamran and Usman Badini questioned intelligence and security lapses, highlighting continued instability in areas such as Nushki. They urged dialogue with the people of Balochistan and warned that denial of rights and lack of services were deepening alienation.

PPP MNA Sehar Kamran said the scale and coordination of attacks indicated external involvement, pointing to a nexus between India and banned militant groups. She stressed the need for national unity to counter the threat.

Govt defends financial support, urges unity

State Minister for Interior Tallal Chaudhry told the House that Balochistan received more than 40 per cent higher share than Punjab under the NFC Award and more than double the per capita funding compared to Punjab and Sindh.

He said 91pc of financial resources spent in the province came from the federal government, citing infrastructure, health and education projects as evidence of sustained support. He questioned the targeting of schools, hospitals and public infrastructure, arguing such attacks harmed ordinary citizens rather than advancing any legitimate cause.

“TTP misuses religion and BLA exploits identity, but they represent neither,” he said, adding that terrorists sought to paralyse normal life and damage Pakistan’s image — an objective the state would not allow to succeed.

The House concluded the debate by reaffirming unity against terrorism and backing decisive action to ensure security, stability and peace in Balochistan and beyond.
