Shaheen to replace Rizwan as ODI captain, sources say

Pakistan’s cricket leadership is set for a change, with Shaheen Shah Afridi reportedly replacing Mohammad Rizwan as the ODI captain. This decision follows Pakistan’s disappointing performances in the West Indies and New Zealand, according to sources.

Rizwan is likely to remain the T20I captain, with selectors and management still assessing leadership across formats. Shaheen, who has impressed with his leadership and performance in the Pakistan Super League, is seen as a strong contender to lead the ODI team.

Shaheen’s previous experience as a captain, where he earned praise for his strategic approach and ability to motivate younger players, further strengthens his case.

The squads for upcoming white-ball series are expected to be announced next week, with Babar Azam likely making his return to T20Is. Naseem Shah, who has recovered from injury, is also in line for selection, and will join Haris Rauf or Hasan Ali in the pace attack.

Shaheen, however, is expected to be rested for the series against South Africa. Youngsters Saim Ayub and Mohammad Haris may also remain in the T20 squad despite recent poor form.
