The United States and Britain are set to unveil more than $10 billion in economic agreements this week during President Donald Trump’s state visit, senior American officials said on Monday.
The trade deal will rest on three main pillars: a new science and technology partnership to boost innovation, cooperation in civil nuclear energy, and expanded defense technology collaboration. Several US technology leaders are expected to attend the visit as part of the announcement.
Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will arrive in the UK on Tuesday. They are scheduled to meet King Charles and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle on Wednesday before attending a state dinner the same evening.
On Thursday, Trump will meet Prime Minister Keir Starmer, with both leaders expected to hold a joint press conference before Trump returns to Washington that night. Trump is the first US president to be invited to two state dinners by the British monarchy, his first being in 2019.
Officials said the agreements will highlight the strength of economic ties between the two allies and underscore their shared foreign policy interests. “This visit gives the president the opportunity to strengthen ties with a particularly close partner and ally, while advancing mutual economic and foreign policy interests,” one senior official said.
