Freedom and failure

With every flag hoisted and every verse of the national anthem sung, we remember the sacrifices that gave us this land. The Independence Day reminds us not only of those sacrifices, but also of the responsibilities that we carry on our shoulders to protect the land and to take it forward on the road to progress.

After all these decades of independence, Pakistan remains a country with unrealised potential. Disruptions in the political system have often derailed the country’s journey to somewhere nice.

This has had a negative impact on the national economy, which even today is far from where it needs to be.

What is worse today is the undeniable and growing disconnect between the people and the rulers, with the former feeling unheard, helpless and betrayed.
