The main cause of the present economic crunch is a misalignment of energy/power usage and economic priorities. We need some immediate remedial measures. To begin with, the closure of shops and markets around 8pm should strictly be enforced. All private vehicles should be off-road at least one day every week. All private cars having less than four occupants should not be allowed in the fast lane during peak hours in order to encourage ‘high occupancy’ commute patterns.
Let us have a trial run in Islamabad.
