In the name of ‘art’

It is common to see at and around traffic signals in Karachi able-bodied persons, invariably a male, approaching you under the disguise of an animal ‘art performer’. However, the fact is that such persons are professional beggars.

Such a person would have a baby monkey under his arm, holding him tight. Criminality surpasses cruelty as the ‘baby’ is snatched from its mother and on top of that the poor soul faces punishment in the name of training for the ‘art’ performance.

It is the responsibility of all tiers of governance — federal, provincial and local — to ensure proper enforcement of laws related to animal rights.

Also, it is society’s moral and social obligation to do whatever it can to dis- courage such unethical practices.
