ISLAMABAD: Walk-in vaccination centres opened their doors to 15- to 18-year-olds for the first time on Monday, an official announced, as the government announced plans to offer jabs to all teenagers in that age group.
“Teenagers will have to produce their B-form to register for the jab,” Parliamentary Secretary for National Health Services Dr Nausheen Hamid said.
Talking to a news channel, Hamid recalled National Command and Operation Centre has already approved the emergency use of the Pfizer doses for teenagers.
She said sufficient stocks of vaccines were available and additional consignments will arrive soon.
The health ministry has also arranged mobile Covid-19 vaccination centres with an objective to increase coverage in slums, schools and colleges, she added.
Young people in the 15-18 age group can register by sending a message on 1166.
Hamid urged the people to get themselves vaccinated and adhere to the precautionary measures laid by the government for the safety of the public.
While appreciating the efforts of the Islamabad administration, she observed the capital become the first city in Pakistan to fully vaccinate 50 percent of its eligible population.
Responding to a question, the official said the positivity ratio was still above the safety levels, but the health experts were of the view that once the country achieves herd immunity, the number of cases will start to come down.
She said restrictions would continue to be in place if people fail to take the vaccination seriously.
