KHAIRPUR: The Sindh Wildlife Department said it recovered two rare deer from a vehicle in Khairpur and registered a case against a suspect under the Sindh Wildlife Act.

According to an official, the department acted on a tip-off and set up a checkpoint near Dua Hotel on the Khairpur-Umerkot Road. During the operation, a suspicious vehicle travelling from New Chhor to Umerkot was stopped and searched, leading to the recovery of the animals.

The official said both deer had been taken into custody and shifted to a safe location. He added that steps were being taken for their protection, medical examination and proper care.

The department has initiated legal proceedings against the accused, the official said, adding that action would continue against those involved in the illegal smuggling, sale and hunting of wildlife, and that wildlife protection laws would be strictly enforced.
