Search for boy missing in Rawalpindi's Leh enters third day

RAWALPINDI: Rescue 1122 teams continued their operation on Monday to locate a six-year-old boy who fell into Nullah Leh in Rawalpindi's Gulistan Colony, with the search entering its third consecutive day.

According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, the child, Muhammad Zahid, went missing on Saturday after he fell into the water while playing outside his house. His father, 36-year-old Mehrban Khan, jumped into the nullah in an attempt to save him, but his body was recovered later the same day.

The spokesperson said the rescue operation was still under way at multiple points along Nullah Leh. For the search, the drain has been divided into three sectors, where specialised water rescue teams are carrying out scuba diving, boat-based checks and line searches. The spokesperson said all available resources were being used to trace the missing child.

The incident follows another recent case in the city. On June 18, seven-year-old Wisal Farhad of Westridge III went missing after he accidentally fell into a drain while playing in the street. His body was recovered from Nullah Leh near Gawalmandi on the third day of the search. The Grade II student had slipped into an uncovered sewerage drain filled with garbage while playing with other children.
