Rescue operation continues for youth missing in Chenab River

MULTAN: Rescue teams resumed a search operation on Sunday for a 22-year-old man who went missing in the Chenab River after reportedly jumping into the water, according to officials.

The missing man was identified as Muhammad Umair, a resident of Nai Abadi Kiyanpur Aliwala in Multan. Eyewitnesses told rescuers that he drowned after jumping into the river.

District Emergency Officer Obaidullah Khan said the rescue response began soon after the incident was reported. The operation, however, had to be halted during the night because of darkness and limited visibility.

He said the search restarted early on Sunday with rescue divers taking part in the operation as teams continued efforts to trace the missing youth.
