 LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday directed Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan to ensure the meaningful participation of both treasury and opposition members in the legislative process, stressing that the House proceedings should be conducted through mutual coordination and consensus.

The chief minister issued the directive during a meeting with Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, who called on her to discuss the country's situation in the context of the prevailing global scenario as well as key legislative matters.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to promote the proceedings of the Punjab Assembly through mutual coordination and constructive engagement. They also discussed legislative matters relating to prison reforms aimed at strengthening the province's correctional system.

Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan appreciated the chief minister for presenting what he described as an outstanding policy at the National Paigham-e-Aman Committee. He also lauded the launch of the "Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar" (My Farm, My Livelihood) scheme and congratulated the chief minister on the successful balloting held under the initiative.

CM Maryam Nawaz described the "Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar" scheme as the collective achievement of the entire government team, saying the Punjab government was introducing new public welfare projects on a regular basis to improve people's lives.

She said the government's development focus had now shifted towards underdeveloped areas, where electric buses were being introduced on roads while modern agricultural machinery was being provided to strengthen and modernise the farming sector.

The chief minister said the "Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar" scheme had created land ownership and livelihood opportunities for 30,000 unemployed families across the province.

 CM pays tribute to Burhan Wani on martyrdom anniversary

Meanwhile, Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday paid tribute to the family of Burhan Wani, a prominent leader of the freedom movement in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), on the anniversary of his martyrdom.

In a special message issued on the occasion, the chief minister said Burhan Wani remained a true hero of the people of IIOJK, adding that his sacrifice demonstrated that every Kashmiri was inspired by the spirit of freedom and self-determination.

She reaffirmed that Pakistan would continue to raise the voice of the Kashmiri people and advocate their just cause at every international forum.

CM Maryam Nawaz said the international community, particularly the United Nations, had a legal and moral responsibility to fulfil its commitments to the people of Jammu and Kashmir by ensuring the implementation of the relevant UN resolutions.

Praying for the people of Kashmir, the chief minister expressed hope that the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir would soon achieve freedom.
