 LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Tuesday met members of the Provincial Assembly, who appreciated the pace of development and beautification projects underway across the province.

The lawmakers praised the provincial government’s initiatives for the construction and expansion of roads and streets, improved drainage systems, and the provision of clean drinking water under model village projects.

They also expressed satisfaction over the launch of an integrated sanitation system in rural areas under the “Suthra Punjab” programme, modeled on urban sanitation systems.

The meeting particularly appreciated the construction, repair, and expansion of 13,000 roads across Punjab, terming it a major step toward strengthening infrastructure and improving connectivity.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that, by the grace of Almighty Allah, a new era of development had begun in Punjab, reflecting the government’s commitment to public welfare and progress.

She said the conversion of more than 3,000 health centres into state-of-the-art health clinics had significantly improved the healthcare system and service delivery across the province.

Maryam Nawaz said Punjab’s first public-sector cancer hospital and Nawaz Sharif Medical City would be completed at the earliest, adding that the province’s first government autism school had emerged as a ray of hope for special children and their families.

Referring to the Institute of Cardiology Sargodha, she said the facility was providing improved healthcare services to patients, while cath lab projects in every district were ensuring timely and effective treatment of heart diseases.

She added that stroke management centres were also being established across districts to provide immediate emergency care.

The chief minister said that under the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” scheme, around 125,000 houses were nearing completion, calling it a major step toward providing affordable housing to the people.

She further announced that the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” project was being launched to support unemployed and landless farmers by creating livelihood opportunities in the agriculture sector.

Maryam Nawaz added that electric buses were providing comfortable and free travel facilities to the public, extending modern transport services even to far-flung areas of Punjab.
