Islamabad court sends suspect in PAF officer killing to jail for identity parade

ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court has ordered a 14-day judicial remand for the man accused of killing Pakistan Air Force Group Captain Asim Tariq, so that an identity parade can be conducted in the case.

The order was issued on Monday by Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Abual Hasanat Mohammad Zulqarnain after police brought the suspect, Saad Abbasi, to court under strict security arrangements. Prosecutor Raja Naveed and the investigating officer were also present during the proceedings.

According to the investigating officer, a case against the suspect has been registered at Margalla Police Station under anti-terrorism law. The officer asked the court to allow an identity parade in line with legal procedure. The judge accepted that request, sent the suspect to jail for 14 days and directed the relevant officials to submit a report once the process is completed.

The court put off further proceedings until July 20 and ordered that the suspect be produced again on the next hearing date. The suspect is accused of shooting Group Captain Asim Tariq in Islamabad on Sunday when the officer allegedly tried to stop him from abducting a woman.
