TAXILA: Muneeba Maqsood, a young thalassemia patient who was made Attock’s honorary deputy commissioner for a day, has died after a long struggle with the blood disorder.
Muneeba had lived for years with thalassemia, undergoing frequent blood transfusions and repeated hospital visits while enduring prolonged physical suffering. She remained hopeful and upbeat despite the illness, and had become a source of inspiration for people around her.
Her wish to serve as deputy commissioner for a day was fulfilled by Deputy Commissioner Attock Rao Atif Raza, who appointed her to the honorary role in recognition of her extraordinary courage. The gesture made her the first honorary deputy commissioner in Attock’s 122-year history.
Her death prompted expressions of grief across Attock, with social workers, government officials, civil society members and residents mourning her passing. They remembered her, not for her illness but for the strength and resolve with which she faced it.
