Commuters flock to rickshaw driver's innovative service
A rickshaw driver in Rawalpindi has installed a modified cooler in his vehicle to help passengers cope with the summer heat. The change has attracted more commuters and, according to the driver, doubled his income.

RAWALPINDI: A rickshaw driver in Rawalpindi has fitted a modified room cooler inside his three-wheeler, turning it into a more comfortable option for passengers during the city’s intense summer heat and humidity.
The driver, Fayyaz, who lives near Sir Syed Chowk on Tipu Road, said he came up with the idea after struggling with the heat himself while driving. The cooling setup has been installed at the back of the vehicle, while a plastic container fixed overhead supplies chilled water mixed with ice. He has also added enclosed doors to help keep the cool air from escaping.
Fayyaz said the system keeps both the seats and the passenger area cool through the day. He added that women travelling on routes linking Sir Syed Chowk, Moti Bazaar, Raja Bazaar and Saddar now prefer his rickshaw because of the cooler. According to him, several families have also taken his phone number and arrange rides in advance.
The driver said the modification has improved not only passenger comfort but also his earnings. According to Fayyaz, demand for his vehicle has risen to the point that commuters wait specifically for his rickshaw, and the added attraction has doubled his income.
