Two killed in separate incidents in Batagram

BATAGRAM: A power lineman and a teenage student lost their lives in two separate incidents in Batagram on Sunday, while another young man was seriously injured in a road accident, officials and local sources said.

Lineman dies during maintenance work

Sher Muhammad, a resident of Koshgram, was carrying out repair work on a high-tension line of Alai Feeder-II in the Deshan area when the line was suddenly energised, according to officials. He received a fatal electric shock and died on the spot.

Sources alleged that the deceased lineman and his colleagues had formally informed the staff at Chattar Grid Station before starting the maintenance work. Despite that prior intimation, electricity was reportedly restored to the line. The circumstances that led to the incident have not yet been established.

Officials said a departmental inquiry had been initiated to determine how the incident occurred, adding that the facts would become clear after the investigation is completed. After legal formalities were fulfilled, the body was handed over to the family and taken to his native village for burial.

Teenager killed after car falls into ravine

In the second incident, a 15-year-old student was killed when a car went off the road and plunged into a deep ravine near Qanjbori while negotiating a bend. The deceased was identified as Sudeer Shah, son of Zubair Shah and a resident of Maidan, Batagram. He died at the scene.

Another youth travelling in the same vehicle sustained serious injuries and was shifted to Ayub Teaching Hospital in Abbottabad for specialised treatment.

The accident took place in a remote area that was difficult to access. Local residents, with the assistance of Rescue 1122 teams, carried out a rescue operation that continued for several hours before the body of the deceased was recovered and the injured passenger was evacuated from the ravine.
